| Item no 836
An unusual, and probably very old, stone trough, roughly rectangular in shape with uneven sloping sides and good internal depth with an original drainage hole in the back wall. Despite it's uneven sides the skill and patience needed to carve a large stone trough like this from a relatively hard stone has to be admired. It was probably made to catch piped spring water for farm animals in an old fold yard and it retains the necessary depth and strength to be reused in a garden water feature. From the Welsh Marches.
18th century or earlier
44" x 33" x 18" high (internal depth 12")
