| Item no 774
A large, well-weathered stone trough with the unusual feature of an original stone lid which covers two thirds of the top of the trough. The reason why this trough was partially covered is not known for sure, but it was probably originally a stone cistern for storing farm or village water. Cheadle, Saffordshire.
18th/19th century
