| Item no 737
A large and unusual weathered composition-stone urn with a foliate rim on a semi-foliate body on a simple plinth. The base of the urn has an impressed mark which appears to read 'Rosher, Chelsea'. There were a number of producers of cement-based composition-stone ornaments in 19th Century Britain and little is now known about the majority of them. However this urn was probably produced by the same Rosher and Co who supplied vases for St George's Park in Port Elizabeth, South Africa which opened in 1882.
