A Compton Pottery Poppy bowl
Item no 121

A rare Compton pottery Arts Guild 'Poppy' bowl on plinth. Although not stamped this urn is similar in every way to goods produced at Compton, which were frequently not indentified by the circular potter's mark. This is the first time we have seen a poppy bowl with the original plinth. Bowls have only occured occasionally at auction, for example one sold at Sothebys, Sussex, in May 1999 for £2500 plus £375 Auctioneers' surcharge (lot 885)
