An antique terracotta jardiniere consisting of an octagonal planter moulded with playful amorini on a separate octagonal base decorated with lion monopodia. It has small round maker's stamps which are difficult to read but which are almost certainly the marks of the Italian maker Manifattura Di Signa. Manifattura Di Signa was founded in Florence in 1895 by Camillo Bondi and specialised in accurate copies of antique and classical sculptural objects often using high fired terracotta, as in this example. Their output was intended to be displayed outdoors as well as inside but it would be sensible to keep this jardiniere inside in Northern European climes. NB, a condition report can be supplied on request.
Early 20th century.
