Coade Urn On Plinth

Item no: 2212

An elegant amphora shaped garden urn on an associated natural stone plinth. The base of the urn is stamped 'Coade London 2004' referring to both the maker and the type of material that the urn is made from. Coade stone was a type of high fired terracotta developed in the second half of the 18th century which was both highly durable and a very effective medium for producing the intricate neoclassical architectural details and ornaments that were fashionable at the time. For many years the secrets of producing Coade stone was considered lost but towards the end of the 20th century a couple of restoration workshops succeeded in developing virtually identical reproductions of original Coade stone. This urn is an example of modern Coade and makes a fine focal point for either a traditional or contemporary garden.

Modern.
