Antique Stone Font

A large antique sandstone font from South Shropshire, the octagonal bowl with plain recessed panels on a stepped octagonal base carved with recessed gothic arches on a segmented octagonal base. This font had been in a private garden for as long as anyone could remember but unfortunately it's earlier history is unknown. It looks like an early example and may have been in one of the religious establishments that were pulled down and broken up by the Dissolution of the Monasteries but without any provenance it is impossible to know. It is a tall feature and makes an enigmatic garden focal point.

The dimensions are of the font on it's own, the octagonal base is 66" x 66" x 4" high.
