An antique stone cistern from Shropshire which is roughly square in shape with high sides and an overflow notch on one side. This trough was almost certainly originally made to store water before iron water tanks became readily available. There is currently a drainage hole at the bottom of one side so it could be used as an impressive stone planter or the hole could be blocked to hold water.
18th century or earlier.
