Antique Stone Trough

An antique sandstone trough from Herefordshire, irregular in shape with a drainage hole through the base. Stone troughs with uneven shapes like this one are probably much older than the ones with regular outlines that have been cut with a stone saw. Our old stone troughs are generally described as 18th or 19th century because all of the genuine inscribed dates we have seen on stone artefacts are from this period but some rough hewn stone troughs, such as this one, are likely to be much older.
