Antique Quern Stone

An antique gritstone quern stone with a side spout and a shallow spindle hole in the centre. Hand operated quern stones have been used since ancient times to grind grain to make flour. They consisted of two parts, this is the base stone and there would originally have been a separate upper grind stone turning on a spindle.
