Antique Terracotta Urn on Base

ITEM NO: 3196

Antique Terracotta Urn on Base

An antique terracotta urn on base, the inside of the urn stamped with an oval marker's stamp for J.C. Edwards, Ruabon.

The firm started by James Coster Edwards in 1870 became a major manufacturer of clay products, especially bricks, making effective use of local clay sources and the canal network. This urn is an example of the decorative stoneware that they produced and is in remarkably good condition for its age. The plinth compliments the urn but is not by the same marker and was probably made by Doulton.

The price is for the urn and the plinth together as is the height dimension.

Late 19th or early 20th Century.

Height 35 inches
Diameter 25 inches
