An antique rectangular water tank made from fielded cast iron panels bolted together. The long sides are cast within the panel with the owner's name, Robert Hall, and the date, 1872. This is a rare example of a Victorian cistern tank made from cast iron but similar in design to earlier lead water cisterns.
It came from a village in North Yorkshire and was probably either a drinking trough for horses or a cooling trough outside a blacksmith's shop. Remarkably it is still watertight and could be reused with a wall fountain to make a unique water feature.
19th century.
