A large antique horse trough from South Herefordshire with finely carved walls and a curved front. Originally this type of large sandstone trough would have been used as a farm water cistern to provide clean drinking water for livestock, especially working horses and therefore were often referred to as 'horse troughs'. This is an unusually large example with lots of capacity and would make an excellent planter for large climbing plants and shrubs. It has formerly had a clean break through the base, since repaired, so is no longer suitable for storing water. We undertake nationwide delivery of large items such as this but please telephone for more information.
